Little legs, big days

Days out with toddlers (0–4)

A brilliant toddler day out is short on queues and long on things they can touch. Think farm parks, pirate-ship playgrounds, splash lagoons and museums with a dedicated under-5 floor.

What actually works at this age

Toddlers last two to four focused hours, not a theme-park marathon. Look for buggy access, a baby-change, somewhere to picnic, and an indoor backup if the sky turns. Paultons Park (Peppa Pig World), farm parks such as Willows, Odds Farm and Godstone, and Eureka! in Halifax are purpose-built for this age.

Theme parks without the tears

Skip the coaster parks. Choose Chessington, Drayton Manor’s Thomas Land, LEGOLAND Windsor’s DUPLO Valley or Adventure Island. Arrive at opening, leave before the afternoon crash, and never apologise for a short day.

Free and almost-free

Richmond Park deer, the Diana Memorial Playground, local country parks and the Natural History Museum’s Hintze Hall all land well with under-fives. Pack snacks. Museum cafes will empty the wallet faster than the ticket desk.
