Ready for bigger rides

Days out with tweens (9–12)

Tweens have opinions. They want speed, stories or something they can tell their class about on Monday — not another petting farm unless the animals are lions.

Rides and safari

Alton Towers, Drayton Manor, Oakwood, Longleat and West Midland Safari Park are the big hitters. Thorpe Park is a stretch unless they already love coasters; Chessington still works if a younger sibling is in the car.

Story days

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, Jorvik, SS Great Britain, Warwick Castle and IWM Duxford feel like a film set. They photograph well, which matters more than we pretend.

Let them steer

Give them the map on DayHop and two vetoes. Ownership cuts the ‘this is boring’ loop in half.
